Our momma was dumped in a commercial parking lot near a vacant lot with bushes when she was really really pregnant. Fortunately for us , she was rescued just before we were born, otherwise we would be trying to survive on the street right now without much of a chance. Luckily we survived that situation so that we could become you special pet. Chae(f), Martha(f)  and Eliazabeth(f), and George(m) are coming to Petsmart today to meet you. We are three, 8 weeks old girls looking for a home. Can you come and play with us?

Today, Trap-Neuter-Release is in jeopardy! If you believe it’s the solution to cat overpopulation in Hillsbrough County, please understand the issues and act.

Trap-Neuter-Release, referred to as “TNR,” is the only method proven to be humane and effective at controlling feral cat population growth. Feral cats in a colony are trapped, neutered and then returned to their territory where caretakers provide them with regular food and shelter. Young kittens who can still be socialized, as well as friendly adults, are placed in foster care and eventually adopted out to good homes.

A significant advantage to TNR is that, when practiced on a large scale, it lessens the number of kittens and cats flowing into local shelters. This results in lower euthanasia rates and the increased adoption of cats already in the shelters.

Trap and remove, the traditional technique exercised by animal control, is simply ineffective. If all cats are not caught, then the ones left behind breed until the former population level is reached. Even if all the cats are removed, new unneutered cats tend to move in to take advantage of whatever food source there was, and the cycle starts again. This explains why more and more animal control agencies are willing to try TNR.

TNR is not just the best alternative to managing feral cat populations – it is the only one that works.

What can you do to help?

1.  Draft an email to all of the Hillsborough County Commissioners website, letting them know you support TNR in our community.  Use this template to email your commissioner.

2.  Sign the petition.  Your name, address, and information will remain confidential.

3.  Pick up the phone and call your county commissioner.  Fact is TNR is working and the numbers speak for themselves.

4.  Visit and ‘Like’ and ‘Share’ the Facebook page called “Saving TNR, Saving Community Cats“.  Please comment frequently!
